Detroit Tigers Magic Number 6 After 3rd Straight Win

The Detroit Tigers magic number is now 6 after a 6-2 win over the Seattle Mariners.  The Cleveland Indians defeated Kansas City to keep the number from shrinking further.

Sanchez Was Dirty

Anibal Sanchez didn’t get the decision tonight but he was filthy nonetheless. “Sanchi” went 6 1/3 innings striking out 10 and surrendering only 2 runs. His ERA of 2.51 is still the leagues best and with every game makes a stronger case for Cy Young.

Miggy Hits Biggy

For the first time in almost a month, Miguel Cabrera hit a big fly.  His solo shot in the 6th was the 44th of the season and a reminder to Tigers fans just how important Miggys bat will be come playoff time.

Avila Stays Hot

Alex Avila continued his hot hitting by legging out a triple in the 7th inning. Over the last 28 days Avila has hit .362 with 2 HR and 6 RBI.  The Tigers backstop seems to have saved his best for the end of the season.

On Tap

The Tigers will try to keep the win streak going when they face the Mariners on Wednesday night at Comerica Park. Felix Hernandez will miss his start on Wednesday while continuing to recover from a strained oblique. Instead the Mariners will start Hisashi Iwakuma on Wednesday and James Paxton on Thursday, according to The Seattle Times.
