Detroit Red Wings Nursing Injuries Heading Into Boston Game

The Detroit Red Wings continue the exhibition season tonight against the Boston Bruins but they will play the game without a couple of their top second line players.  Johan Franzen has been suffering from a sore hip flexor and is still to sore to play according to Helen St. James of the Free Press.  Ken Holland also reported to the media that newly signed free agent Daniel Alfredsson is day-to-day with a “tender groin”.

The Detroit Red Wings injuries don’t stop there. Darren Helm’s status is also day-to-day but this time it is not his back giving him the trouble.  Helm missed most of training camp and both preseason games with the injury and could miss additional time during the exhibition season.  The Wings could be just treating the Helm situation with caution but it is still cause for concern.  Groin injuries can be nagging and if Darren Helm spends time on the bench this regular season much of the Wings team speed will be benched as well.

That said, the Wings top line is happy and healthy this preseason and all are scheduled to travel to Boston for tonight. Abdelkader, Zetterberg, Datsyuk and Weiss all plan to see ice time tonight in beantown.
