The Detroit Tigers magic number is 4 after a 5-4 victory over the Seattle Mariners during day baseball at Comerica Park. Doug Fister had a strong outing going 7 2/3 innings and striking out 10. He did give up four runs but more importantly he pitched deep into the game allowing the bullpen to rest after yesterday’s 8-0 loss.
The Tigers finished the season series 4-2 over the Mariners who ended up with one of the worst season in baseball. The Tiger continue their home stand when they wrap up the season series against the White Sox this weekend at Comerica Park.
The Cleveland Indians are playing hard for a wildcard spot. The beat the Astros in extra innings to delay the Tigers clinching of the American League Central for one more day. They are just 1/2 game out of the second wildcard behind the Tampa Bay Rays.
The countdown to clinching will continue this weekend when the Tigers welcome the White Sox. The Tigers aren’t the only team that will be counting down this weekend. Chicago is last in the American League Central with a 60-92 record and can’t wait for the 2013 season to come to a merciful end.
