Max Scherzer Wins 20, Detroit Tigers Magic Number is 3

It is getting so close now Tigers fans can start to hear the faint popping of champagne corks in the not to distant future.  The Tigers put Playstation numbers up on the White Sox tonight scoring 12 runs on 18 hits while helping Max Scherzer earn his 20th win.  After tonight’s 12-5 win, the Detroit Tigers magic number is now 3, bolstering hopes that the Tigers could clinch the American League Central at home on Sunday.

To make that happen the Tigers will need a little help from the Astros.  The Tigers will need the Astros to had the Cleveland Indians a loss. An Indians loss would make it possible for the Tigers to clinch the division with a sweep of the White Sox and celebrate in front of the home crowd Sunday afternoon.  However, don’t expect the Sox to go down without a fight.  The prospect of watching the rival Tigers clinch the division at their expense will be plenty of motivation for the Southside Sox.

If the Tigers are to sweep the Sox they will have to get past Chris Sale on Saturday.  Sale has managed to win 11 games for the worst Chicago club in years.  The Sox left-handed ace has been the only bright spot in an awful season and if he was pitching for any other team (save Houston) he would have Cy Young numbers.  Opposing Sale is Rick Porcello who has had an outstanding season in his own right. After an off-season of being on the trade block, Porcello is making Dave Dombrowski look like a genius for keeping him in the 2013 rotation.

Keep logging on to Detroit Jock City as the Tigers inch closer to their second consecutive AL Central title.
