Doug Fister Pitching For AL Central Title, Home Field

The Detroit Tigers could become American League Central Champions this evening if they defeat the Minnesota Twins.  The Tigers Magic number is 2 and in order for them to clinch tonight they will need a little help from their arch rival, the Chicago White Sox.  The Cleveland Indians will need to lose to the Sox tonight in order for the Tigers to clinch their second consecutive AL Central title.

The Tigers also have home field advantage to play for. Detroit will likely draw the Oakland A’s in the first round of the playoffs.  Before play tonight the Tigers are three games behind the A’s for the second best record in the American League.  If the playoffs started today, The Tigers would face a tough series on the road in Oakland in the opening round.

It is for this reason the Tigers will likely keep the foot on the gas even after they clinch the division. Home field advantage can be critical in a short series and the team will take every advantage it can get against a tough American League bracket.

Doug Fister will toe the rubber tonight for the Tigers.  Fister is 13-9 with a 3.71 ERA on the season. Against the Twins he is 1-1 with a 3.07 ERA and has held Twins hitters to .192 batting average.

First pitch tonight from Minnesota is at 8:05 pm EST.
