The Oakland A’s defeated the Detroit Tigers 6-3 in an intense ALDS Game 3. It wasn’t a good day for Anibal Sanchez. He gave up 6 runs in 4 1/3 innings including 3 home runs leading to a 3 run deficit after 6 innings of play.
Jhonny Peralta helped wake-up the Tigers offense. He drove in the game tying run in the 4th inning when he singled in two Ribbies. Those three runs would be all the Tigers could put up on the Oakland starter. It wasn’t enough as Oakland pitching shut down the Tiger bats the rest of the way.
The Tigers heros of the fourth inning were due up in the ninth and then all heck broke lose. Grant Balfour was facing Victor Martinez when Balfour dropped an f-bomb on Victor that ignited a benches clearing shoving match. The exchange did nothing to ignite the Tiger offense and the only base runner they were able to manage came from a two-out walk to Alex Avila.
Good News! Bullpen Was Dominant
What was thought to be a weakness of the Tigers going into the postseason, the Tigers bullpen was dominant against the A’s. Jose Alvarez pitched 3 scoreless innings before being relieved by Jose Veras in the eighth inning. Veras then went 1 2/3 innings striking out 3. setting up the Tigers comeback in the bottom of the ninth.
The Tigers will try to even the series tomorrow at Comerica Park. It is a 5:00 pm start and Doug Fister will be on the mound for Detroit.
