ALDS Game 3 between the Tigers and Athletics will begin tomorrow afternoon. The Tigers are looking to get their offense back on track after being shut-out over the last 17 innings in the ALDS. The last time the Tigers scored a run it was courtesy of an Alex Avila single that scored Victor Martinez in the first inning of game 1. Since then the Tigers bats have been lifeless.
The Athletics will send Jarrod Parker to the mound against Cy Young candidate Anibal Sanchez. Sanchez has been dirty at home this season holding opponents to a .217 batting average.
The last time Jarrod Parker saw the Tigers they lit him up of 8 runs in 3 1/3 innings. He has only seen the Tigers twice in his major league career but has allowed them to hit .374 against him.
In an effort to get the offense going Jim Leyland has decided to start Jhonny Peralta in ALDS Game 3
“I’m going to play Peralta tomorrow, Try to get an extra base bat in the lineup because we got to score some runs obviously.”
When asked if he (Leyland) was worried about sacrificing some defense Leyland responded by saying that sometime you have to give up something to “get something”. I am sure the something Leyland is referring to is a spark or the Tigers risk having the offense almost completely die out in the postseason like it did in 2012.
