2013 ALDS Game 2: A’s Even Series as Tigers Offense Stalls

Game 2 of the ALDS was a coming out party for Oakland rookie starter Sonny Gray.  Gray stymied the Tigers over 8 innings helping the Athletics even the series.  But it took Stephen Vogt’s single in the bottom of the ninth for the A’s to earn a split at home.

ALDS Game 2 Preview

"ALDS Game 2 between the Detroit Tigers and Oakland Athletics will happen in front of another raucous crowd in Oakland California.  After losing Game 1 last night, the Athletics will try to avoid going back to Detroit down 0-2."

ALDS Game 2 Results: Vogt’s walk-off single

"The Oakland Athletics were desperate for a win in ALDS Game 2 and thanks to Stephen Vogt they got one.  The A’s catcher lined a single into left field in the bottom of the ninth to score Yoenis Cespedes and end the game in walk-off fashion. It had been a pitchers duel until that point.  Justin Verlander was brilliant through 7 scoreless innings striking out 11 and scattering 4 hits.  Trouble was that Oakland starter Sonny Gray was just a little better.  Gray bested Verlander by going 8 scoreless innings and striking out 9."
