The Detroit Red Wings are 3-2 to start the season and they are not happy. After making a big splash in free agency this off-season, the Wings hoped they would have more of a scoring punch. Red Wing defenseman Johnathan Ericsson is especially disappointed with the way the team has played at home.
We haven’t played very well lately,” defenseman Jonathan Ericsson said after the morning skate. “It’s been a bit embarrassing, to be honest. We have to play a lot better, especially here at home. Hopefully, we can redeem ourselves tonight.”
The redemption they sought came at the expense of the Philadelphia Flyers. The Wings put up 5 goals to beat the Flyers 5-2
The changes worked as the Wings played with more energy and a bit tougher. To inspire this kind of play, head coach mike Babcock had shaken up the lines prior to the gamne and it looks the chnages have worked.
Todd Bertuzzi has moved up from the third line to join Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg on the first line. While, the second line featured Justin Abdelkader, Stephen Weiss and Johan Franzen. Mike Babcock hopes the changes will inspire better effort.
I’m a big believer that energy is contagious. Goal scoring is contagious. Physical play is contagious. We need some physical play. We need a much better effort than the other night. We’re thankful we have a game quickly here so we can get on with that and get better.”
