Sources Report Jim Leyland Stepping Down As Tigers Skipper

The news started breaking slowly this morning.  First on Twitter through Ken Rosenthal and then on sports radio. The news? There is a press conference scheduled today to announce that Jim Leyland will no longer be manager of the Tigers.

Sources close to the situation were reporting to the Karsch and Anderson Show on 97.1 the ticket that Jim Leyland may not be at the press conference. Does that mean Leyland is getting fired rather than retiring? Maybe the decision to retire wasn’t his to make. Whatever he is being pushed out or going on his own Jim Leyland will no longer be the manager of the Detroit Tigers.

So after 8 seasons, 7oo wins, 3 division titles and 2 American League pennants the Detroit Tigers will be looking for another manager. The Leyland detractors should be careful what they wish for in the future because they just might get it.
