Farewell to Jim Leyland

After 8 years as Manager of the Detroit Tigers Jim Leyland announced he was stepping down yesterday to take another job with the organization.  He was the epitome of class while he was manager of the Detroit Tigers.  He also brought this organization back into the Championship conversation.  He is the best manager the Tigers have had since Sparky Anderson.

8 years ago when the Detroit Tigers were just starting to think about putting money back into the team and they felt they needed a veteran presence they turned to a retired Jim Leyland.  As we all know he lead them to the 2006 World Series, and in his 8 years only had 1 losing season.  It was exactly what this team needed at the time, and has continued to be for the past 8 seasons.  While I have been his most outspoken critic here at DetroitJockCity.com, I believe he was the right man for the job.

I want to thank him for putting us back onto the baseball map, and for turning the talent into a team.  He has left this team much better off then when he started and for that he deserves much credit.  We can only hope that the next Manager can keep us where Jim Leyland left us, Personal Thank You to Jim Leyland.
