State of Michigan Basketball Preview

The College Basketball season starts tonight for most of the teams in Michigan. The Michigan Wolverines and Michigan State Spartans begin their season tonight at home.

University of Detroit, Oakland University, Central Michigan, and Eastern Michigan also start tonight with Western Michigan starting on Monday.  This should be a good year to be a fan of basketball in this state, Michigan State is ranked #2 in the country with Michigan starting the season ranked 7th.

University of Detroit and Oakland University are both in the Horizon league for the first time. Oakland should make a run at the conferences automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.  University of Detroit was picked to finish 8th in the Horizon in a preseason coaches poll.

The Central Michigan Chippewas, Eastern Michigan Eagles, and Western Michigan Broncos have struggled in previous years but look to have come back years and compete in the MAC.

Michigan and Michigan State have great chances to make it to the final four this season.  Michigan has 3 returning starters and 3 incoming freshman that could make a huge impact.

Michigan State has 4 returning starters and a couple of freshman who could make a huge impact.

While they both have question marks the talent they have should over come the question marks.  The big question for the Michigan Wolverines is if can they replace player of the year Trey Burke at the point guard position.  The questions for Michigan State is if can they stay healthy and if Keith Appling can take the next step as a hybrid point guard.

I believe all questions will be yes and it will be an exciting year to be a fan of both Michigan and Michigan State basketball. If the Wolverines and the Spartans come together they both have the talent to make a run at the National Championship.
