#2 Michigan State Spartans Crush McNeese State In Opener

The #2 Michigan State Spartans took care of business at the Breslin center with a 98-56 win over McNeese State.

Gary Harris lead the Spartans in scoring with 20 while collecting 10 rebounds.  Forward Adreien Payne added a double double with scoring 10 points with 10 rebounds.

Harris and Payne weren’t the only Spartans to score double-digit points as 4 more Spartans scored double digits in this years run and gun offense. Guard Travis Trice contributed 11 points and 8 assists off the bench while staking his claim to playing time in a Spartan offense that will feature frequent guard rotation.

Despite a convincing victory Coach Tom Izzo was relatively happy with the result.

Lots of good things happened, We wanted to do a better job with dribble penetration, I’d say we were OK at that. We wanted to do a better job rebounding the ball, we did a great job at that, and we wanted to not turn the ball over, and that’s the worst thing we did all night.”

The Spartans did turn the ball over 15 times.  A bit of a contrast from the two preseason games this season.

The Spartans will prepare for a battle for early season national supremacy when they take on Kentucky on Tuesday.
