On a night when the Wolverines 2012-13 final four banner was raised to the rafters, the team struggled to a tie after the first half before pulling away from Umass-Lowell in the second.
Michigan eventually came away with the victory 69-42.
The Michigan Wolverines were actually trailing 25-23 early in the second but pulled away in the second half with a 46 point performance. The Wolverines not only improved their scoring but the locked down UMass-Lowell with tough defense holding them to only 19 points in the second half.
It wasn’t a perfect start to the season but considering the Wolverines were without future lottery pick Mitch McGary it was a outstnading performance.
Forward Glenn Robinson III lead the scoring with 20 points while John Horford contributed with 7 defensive rebounds. The three-point shooting phenom was only 1-3 behind the arc but had 6 free throws down the stretch for the Wolverines.
Mitch McGary missed the game with lower back soreness, an affliction he has dealt with his entire career. Head Coach John Beilein kept him out of the line-up to ensure he would be 100% for the grueling big ten season.
The Michigan Wolverines continue the season on Sunday on the road against the Iowa State Cyclones. Game time 5:00 pm.
