The 2013 MLB Rookie of the Year will be announced today and the Detroit Tigers Jose Iglesias is among the finalists. The other two finalists are Tampa Bay Rays Wil Myers and Chris Archer were key contributors to the Rays Wild Card run. DJC will look at all the candidates and try to pick a winner for this prestigious award.

Jose Iglesias, Detroit Tigers

Iglesias had a strong season but tapered off after being traded to the Tigers. The Tigers acquired Jose Iglesias in a trade from the Boston Red Sox after losing Jhonny Peralta to a 50 suspension. Iglesias is a defensive specialist but his performance with the bat as a Red Sox garnered him some early attention as a Rookie of the Year candidate.

As a Red Sox, Iglesias hit .330 with 1 HR 19 RBI in 234 At-Bats. As a Tiger he hit only .259 with  and OBP of .306. Although he did make stellar defensive plays as a Tiger down the stretch his performance at the plate left a lot to be desired.
