Max Scherzer Wins 2013 AL Cy Young

Seemingly immediately after the season ended for the Detroit Tigers Max Scherzers name has been mentioned in trade rumors. and among all the rumors one solid fact remained.  Scherzer deserved to win the 2013 American League Cy Young.

Tonight the Baseball Writers agreed.

Max Scherzer was the favorite of many sports writers around mid-season after he went 15-o, but he had his detractors.

Detractors of Scherzer pointed to the fact that his WHIP and ERA were too high to win the award. But in the months of August and September he answered the critics.  In August Scherzer went 4-0  with an ERA of 3.50.  In September he added two more wins and posted and even better ERA of 2.78.

All this led to a final stat line of 21-3, 2.84 ERA, .0978 WHIP, and an opponents batting average of .198. Scherzer was the only pitcher to win 20 or more games this season.

There is no question Scherzer was worthy of the award.  However the question is: Will Max Scherzer become the next Cy Young pitcher to be traded the offseason after winning the award?

That question will keep fans talking until next years trade deadline but isn’t that why the Hot Stove league is so much fun!
