The Michigan State Spartans beat the Nebraska Cornhuskers 41-28 and all but locked up a Big Ten Championship berth.
The Spartans jumped out to a 20-7 halftime lead and despite an excellent second half by the Cornhusker offense would never give up the lead on their way to a 41-28 victory.
Mark Dantonio and the Michigan State Spartans have mastered the fake field goal. With 13:42 left in the fourth quarter Head Coach Mark Dantonio sent out his field goal team to attempt a 37 yard field goal. Instead holder Mike Salder kept the snap a nd surged forward to gain the first down and extend the drive.
At the time of the trick play, Michigan State lead 27-21. The Spartans had led the entire game but Nebraska was surging and holding the Spartans to a field goa; could have given the Cornhuskers more momentum. Instead the fake field goal extended the drive and led to a 27 yard touchdown pass to Keith Mumphrey. A play that effectively ended Nebraska’s hopes of a comeback victory.
Jeremy Langford would add another touchdown, his 3rd of the game to push the Spartan’s score to 41. Langford continued his streak of 100 yard games by rushing for 151 yards.
The win gives #16 Michigan State and 6-0 record in the Big Ten and a 9-1 record overall. With games left against Northwestern and Minnesota it looks as if Michigan state is one their way to a 11 win season and a top 10 ranking.
