The Convocation Center was rocking tonight as the Eastern Michigan University Men’s Basketball team, continued its undefeated start to the 2013-14 campaign. With a 74-69 victory against the University of Texas-Arlington and five wins to begin the season, Eastern Michigan Head Coach Rob Murphy, has his team off to the program’s best start since the 1996-97 season.
The Eastern Michigan basketball team was led by redshirt freshman Raven Lee, who dropped a career high 38 points. Think of the possibilities for his remaining time in college. Eastern Michigan was also helped by Darell Combs, who had 18 points of his own. Leading Texas-Arlington was Brandon Edwards, with 30 points, as well as Reger Dowell, with 22 points.
The Eastern Michigan Eagles soared through the first half which ended with them leading, 42 to 35. From then on in the second half, the closest Texas- Arlington would come was within three points. Clutch three point shooting was the story of the game. Both teams connected on eight three pointers, but Eastern hit more in the second half when they counted. Raven Lee connected on all five of his attempts from downtown, on top his stellar 12 for 15 night from the field.
Eastern Michigan next plays Wednesday November 27th, against the number four team in the nation. Yes folks, that means the Eagles will be squaring off against the Kentucky Wildcats. Now wouldn’t that be something if Eastern can play competitively against them? Talk about a team confidence booster.
It will be a great early season test for a team on the rise. The Eagles should take advantage of this opportunity because they will be playing in a famous arena, against a highly regarded team.
Eastern Michigan also scheduled games against Duke and Syracuse for this season. They will both be measuring stick games as well. During their conference play which begins January 8th, the Eagles will not face a team as talented as these at all.
Tip off is at 4:00 PM Wednesday at Rupp Arena, go Eagles!
