Pavel Datsyuk Suffers Possible Concussion

The Ottawa Senators are quickly becoming one of the Red Wings Eastern Conference heated  rivals.

In yesterday’s 4-2 loss to the Senators, Pavel Datsyuk took an elbow to the head in the third period from Ottawa’s Jared Cowen.  Datsyuk continued to play but sat out the last two minutes after feeling the effects of the hit.

The elbow from Chen went unpenalized something teammate Henrik Zetterberg noted after the game commenting about how so many eyes seemed to miss and obvious penalty.

If you don’t see it, you can’t call it. He just had the puck, kind of strange no one saw a star player like that.”

Pavel Datsyuk is out indefinitely as a result of the elbow and is being evaluated daily for concussion symptoms.  Datsyuk didn’t make the trip to Buffalo for this afternoon’s game against the  Sabres.

Pavel’s injury comes at a terrible time for the Red Wings who have been struggling  to find consistency this season. Datsyuk leads the team with 12 goals and in second in points with 27.

The Wings will miss Datsyuk, especially considering Todd Bertuzzi and Daniel Alfredsson have been struggling with injuries of their own. They will need more secondary scoring to pick up the slack and avoid another prolonged losing streak.
