Darren Helm Leads Wings Over Sabres

The Darren Helm watch has been on since late last season.  The speedy Red Wings forward missed the vast majority of the strike shortened season last season with a lower back issue. Throughout the summer reports were positive regarding Helms return.  But set back after set back lead to Helm starting the season on Injured Reserve. That had fans wondering whether or not Darren Helm’s hockey career was over.

After a few weeks on IR, Helmer returned to the Wings line-up and has been a difference maker for the team.  Helm has played 11 games this season and talled 7 points.  One of which came from his 5th goal on Sunday against the Buffalo Sabres, leading the Red Wings to a 3-1 road victory.

Helm looks like his old self, and making General Manger Ken Holland look smart for using a roster spot on the injury prone center. Helms scoring touch has been a welcome sight for the wings who have had trouble finding scoring consistency.

Money Well Spent

Daniel Alfredsson continues to make an impact despite being a bit banged up.  He had two points baning home a goal in the 3rd period and assisting Helm in the 2nd period.

The Red Wings next take to the ice at the Joe on Wednesday when they host the Boston Bruins.  Game time 7:30.  Catch it on Fox Sports Detroit.
