MLB Free Agency: Detroit Tigers Talking Seriously With Brian Wilson

In the 2013 ALCS against Boston, some Tiger fans were annoyed with all the Red Sox fans donning fake beards in honor of their teams refusal to shave.

Well if you were annoyed by the bearded Bostonians get ready for Brian Wilson.

According to the Detroit News, The Detroit Tigers are in “serious negotiations” with the former Giants closer.  Wilson returned last season to play for the Dodgers after nearly missing the season recovering from surgery. The bearded wonder pitched in 18 games for Don Mattingly posting an ERA of 0.66 in over 13 innings.

The Tigers are also rumored to be interested in Joe Nathan and Grant Balfour but have yet to talk to them seriously.

You can expect the Tigers to make another of moves to solidify the bullpen, which most fans blamed for last years postseason collapse. Last years closer Joaquin Benoit filled in after three others failed in the role. That said, Benoit is at his best in the set-up role and if the Tigers bring him back, Benoit will probable be the 8th inning guy.

That leaves Wilson as one of the possible contenders for the role and of the options currently available on the free agent market he may be the most affordable.
