The Michigan State Spartans will play Ohio State on Saturday for the right to go to the Rose Bowl. But if recent Bowl Projections are right, the Spartans may have already sewn up their Rose Bowl berth when Ohio State beat Michigan.
Ohio State’s victory over Michigan moved them to #2 in the latest BCS poll. This after Auburn beat Alabama and the Crimson Tide’s subsequent drop to #4.
Because Ohio State is already #2, a win against the Spartans in the Big Ten Championship game would mean they would still play in the National Championship game. The Rose Bowl would then take Michigan State as the Big Ten representative.
So barring a blow-out lose to the Buckeyes in the Big Ten Championship, Michigan state is most likely going to play in the Rose Bowl on January 1st.
But the Spartans don’t want to back into the game they have been playing to get into the entire season. They want a Big Ten Championship. And they want revenge for last years loss.
We owe them for last year,” senior linebacker Denicos Allen said. “We’re not going to let that happen again.”
Even if the Spartans lose to Ohio State, there is no shame in losing to a team headed for a National Championship. And it won’t take much away from an excellent season. a season no one saw coming when the year started.
