This game was supposed to be a pre-Heisman celebration for norther Illinois QB Jordan Lynch. but it turned into a party celebrating a MAC Championship. The guest of honor? The Bowling Green Falcons.
The Bowling Green Falcons claimed their first MAC championship since 1992 by routing the Northern Illinois Huskies 47-27. That score is certainly eye-popping for most college football fans. Probably more eye pooping however were the numbers generated by one of the games starting quarterbacks
Bowling Green’s Matt Johnson , not Jordan Lynch, was the dominant passer in this game. Johnson passed for 393 yards and 5 touchdowns, completely out playing the Heisman candidate from Northern Illinois.
Jordan Lynch passed for a mediocre 219 yards while throwing 2 interceptions. Lynch did manage to rush for 100 yards but the Bowling Green defense contained the big play ability of the Huskie hurler.
Bowling Green MAC Championship puts the entire BCS into a tailspin. Northern Illinois was almost guaranteed a BCS slot. But after the loss other teams will have an opportunity to slip into the Huskies spot. Who that team will be will be determined by the rest of the college conference championship games tomorrow.
The Bowling Green Falcons finish the season 10-3 and are in line for a bowl appearance themselves, probably the GoDaddy.com bowl on January 5th. Until then they can sit back and admire their throphy….and the BCS bedlam they created.
