Rajai Davis is a versatile outfielder who can play all three outfield postions. It can be assumed that we is being brought in to play left field probably in a platoon with Andy Dirks.
The primary reason for the Tigers acquiring Davis is speed. Davis stole 45 bases last season in 108 games with the Blue Jays. He also has a little pop in his bat adding 6 Home Runs, 16 doubles and 2 triples while hitting .260.
Davis provides a huge weapon for the Tigers off the bench and will be the best Tigers base stealer since Gary Pettis.
Dave Dombrowski said during a press conference announcing the signing of Joe Nathan that they wouldn’t be involved in any other free agent signings. however Rajai Davis would not be considered a major free agent.
Just yesterday he was featured in a discussion on MLB Network of “under the radar” outfield free agents that could help a team. MLB expert Ken Rosenthal said that Davis would be a great platoon player good for about 120 games a season.
