In a late Christmas Day press release Michigan State Spartans Head Coach Mark Dantonio announced the suspension of his defensive captain Max Bullough for violation of team rules.

The release from Michigan State was short, to the point and highly disappointing.

Max Bullough has been suspended for the remainder of the season for a violation of team rules. It is extremely disappointing for all parties involved. We will stay focused and close ranks as we prepare for Stanford on January 1 in the Rose Bowl. Max will forever remain a Spartan and valued member in this team’s achievements.”

The suspension sent shock waves through Spartan nation.

The Bullough family as much a part of the Spartan football program as the color green.  Max’s brother Riley currently plays for the Spartans while their father and two uncles have also worn the Green and White.

There was no information given in the release as to what team rule violation occurred. But it must have been serious in order to justify the suspension of the teams highest profile defensive player on the eve of the biggest game in recent Spartan history. This suspension also stands out considering Dantonio’s reluctance to suspend players in the past.
