The 2014 pro bowl voting results were announced Friday night on the NFL network and a pair of Detroit Lions have made the cut.
Calvin Johnson was selected to the pro bowl Pro Bowl for the 4th consecutive year. He was among the NFL’s top five vote getters in the new pro bowl fan voting format.
This season Johnson has racked up 1,492 yards and 12 touchdowns on 84 receptions. Despite the gaudy numbers, Johnson waned down the stretch this season dropping some key passes that contributed to the Detroit Lions second half collapse. However even a case of a dropsies was not enough to deter voters as Megatron recieved the 4th highest vote total among all NFL players.
Ndamukong Suh was also selected by fans to participate in the NFL All Star game. Suh makes the team mostly based upon name recognition rather than statistical dominance. Suh has just 5.5 sacks and 34 tackles on the season. His 2013 sack total is the second lowest of his career.
Both Ndamukong Suh and Calvin Johnson will be available for the Pro-bowl draft. The draft will be held on January 22nd on the NFL network. As part of the new pro bowl format, Jerry Rice and Deion Sanders will serve as team captains and draft teams from the pool of available pro bowl players. The NFL Hall of Famers will be assisted by two fantasy football champions selected by NFL.com.
The pro bowl game will be played on January 26th at Aloha Stadium in Hawaii. The game will air on NBC.
