The Red Wings are emerging from a stretch where at least seven players were out with injury. Now players are getting healthy and getting back in the line-up…..just in time for the Winter Classic.
Jimmy Howard will return to the ice tonight against Nashville. Howard has been out for about three weeks after injuring his knee during practice prior to a game with the Tampa Bay.
If there is such a thing as good timing for an injury, Howard’s injury qualifies as such. Howard was in the midst of a terrible slump and was getting spelled on a regular basis by back up Jonas Gustavsson even before the injury.
If Howard’s knee is indeed 100%, the time off could have helped Howard get his head right. With a healthy knee and his head screwed on straight, Howard could return to the franchise goalie the Red Wings signed to that lucrative long term contract a year ago.
Darren Helm is also returning to line-up tonight versus the Predators. Helm has missed three weeks with a shoulder injury.
According to Helen St. James of the Detroit Freep Press, Mike Babcock will try a speed line tonight against the predators featuring Justin Abdelkador, Darren Helm and Tomas Jurco. The rest of the lines (according to St. James) will be:
Henrik Zetterberg is with Daniel Alfredsson and Gustav Nyquist, and Pavel Datsyuk with Todd Bertuzzi and Tomas Tatar. Joakim Andersson is with Daniel Cleary and Drew Miller.
