Team Canada: Past And Current Red Wings Behind Juggernaut Roster

Red Wing fans probably already know about the influence of the Winged wheel on Team Sweden. But just as Team Sweden was built using Red Wings, Team Canada was built by Red Wings.

Team Canada put together a very impressive roster under the direction of former Red Wing great and current Tampa Bay GM Steve Yzerman. Yzerman is joined on Team Canada by current Red Wing’s bench boss Mike Babcock and current Red Wing General Manager Ken Holland. Together the trio of past and current Red Wings that have the gold medal dreams of an entire nation in their hands.

The Red Wings brain trust has put together a Canadian Olympic team that will have to charter an extra cargo plane to carry all of their hardware. MVP’s, Norris Trophy winners, Hart Trophy winners, gold medalist; Team Canada has achieved it all. No other Olympic Roster is as highly decorated as Team Canada.

Team Canada isn’t the only team deeply influenced by Detroit Red Wings.  Team Sweden features 6 Wings including captain Henrik Zetterberg. Team Russia will benefit from the services of Pavel Datsyuk and Team USA will have Jimmy Howard on its roster. Red Wings fans will certainly be torn if any of these teams face-off in the medal round.

Team Canada will begin the defense of their gold medal from Bolshy Ice Dome in Sochi, Russia on Thursday February 13th at 12 pm EST.
