Jimmy Howard is starting to find his game. Too bad the Red Wings offense couldn’t find the net.
The New York Rangers peppered Jimmy Howard with 48 shots in their 1-0 win over the Red Wings at Madison Square Garden. The Rangers lone goal came off of a deflected shot by Mats Zuccarello at 14:02 in the 3rd period. The goal was Zuccarello’s 12 of the season.
Howard’s 47 saves and .979 save percentage represents his best game of the season. It is further evidence that the horrible slump he experienced in November and December is a distant memory.
The Red Wings lack of scoring prowess is understandable as of late. Most of the team’s top goal scorers are out of the line-up nursing various injuries. Tonight’s scratches included Joakim Andersson and Daniel Alfredsson taking two more forwards out of a line-up that is already missing Pavel Datsyuk, Steven Weiss and Tomas Tatar.
The Red Wings called Corey Emerton from Grand Rapids after the morning skate. Joakim Andersson suffered a lower body injury during the skate that left him day-to-day. Emmerton arrived just before game time allowing the Red Wings to ave 12 forwards for the game.
The Red Wings return home to face the L.A.Kings on Saturday. The puck will drop at 7:00 pm and you can catch the game on Fox Sports Detroit.
