During Superbowl week you get a chance to here from all sorts of player interviews on the radio promoting everything from charity events to energy drinks. Even some of the Detroit Lions are getting into the act.
Detroit Lions running back Joique Bell stopped by Jay Mohr Sports on Fox Sports Radio to promote his youth football camp in Benton Harbor. Jay Mohr can be heard locally on 1130 WDFN.
While in studio, Mohr asked Bell what percentage of carries he lost to Reggie Bush in the Detroit Lions offensive scheme.
I actually got more carries, Reggie and I make a good 1-2 punch.
Bell went on to say that he considers He and Bush to be one the best tandums in the National Football league.
The DetroitLions offensetotaled more rushing yards this year than they have in years past but not enough to be considered one of the best in the NFL at running the ball.
The Detroit Lions 1792 rushing yard ranks 9th in the NFC and 17th in the NFL. In fact Detroit total rushing is only good enough to rank them 3rd in their own division behind Green Bay and Chicago.
Although Bell’s perception of the Lions ground game may be a little off, the drive and determination seem to be there to improve. It also appears that there is no animosity between the Bush and Bell which could bode well for a Lions offense that promises to run the ball even more in 2014.
Joique Bell is a restricted free agent and will most likely be a major priority for the Detroit Lions in free agency. In today’s NFL a team needs multiple running backs to be effective. Joique Bell’s downhill rushing style is a perfect complement to Reggie Bush’s pass catching ability. The Lions need to keep both running backs in the fold in order to have success in 2014.
