The Michigan Wolverines Basketball program went on the road Tuesday and scored a big 70-60 win over the Ohio State Buckeyes. The win ended the Wolverines 11 season losing streak in Columbus and helped the Wolverines maintain their share of the Big Ten lead.
Freshmen guard Derrick Walton jr had a big game scoring 13 points and adding 10 rebounds. Zak Irvin added 10 points off the bench helping the Wolverines silence the normally hostile Buckeye fans.
Obviously, it was a hostile arena,” senior forward Jordan Morgan said. “You’ve got to get comfortable with pressure that (the Buckeyes) are going to put on you. They’re going to challenge you to make big plays and I think our freshmen stepped up and did it.”
Freshman contributions aside, it was 3 point and free throw shooting powered the Wolverines victory, just like it has been all season.
Michigan shot just 41.5% from the field but were 47.1% from behind the arch. Many of those three’s came in the second half helping the Wolverines overcome a 4 point halftime deficit.
It was a nice win to get after the Wolverines lost 2 of their last three games to start a brutal stretch of February games. Michigan now returns home for a pair of games that start with Wisconsin on Sunday and ends following Sunday with Michigan State. Winning both games could put the Wolverines in sole possession of first place with only four games to play.
