Since the Detroit Pistons dismissed head coach Maurice Cheeks last Sunday there have been rumors surrounding the head coaches seat now occupied by interim head coach John Loyer. Most of the rumors have surrounded former Memphis Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins but at least one NBA insider thinks the Pistons will dip into the college ranks to find their head coach.

Stephen A. Smith known mostly now for his antics on ESPN’s First Take got his start as ESPN’s NBA insider. So there could be some truth to Smith’s theory.
It seems that Tom Izzo’s name is always involved when it comes to NBA coaching vacancies but would Michigan States head man be willing leave the friendly confines of East Lansing for a challenge in the NBA? If such an offer was made it would take a lot of money to pull if off and coincidently money is something Tom Gores has plenty of.
Before the Detroit Pistons start chasing head coaches, they need to clear out the dark cloud hanging over the front office. Joe Dumars has hired and fired 8 head coaches in his 13 year tenure and it is rumored he was forced into the latest firing of Maurice Cheeks.
If Tom Gores and the Detroit Pistons are going to make a serious push for Tom Izzo they will have to resolve the front office situation first and that could take some time.
That said Tom Izzo to Detroit is an interesting thought even if it is just a pipe dream.
