Brad Ausmus Undecided On Detroit Tigers Opening Day Starter

After a week of watching the pitchers and a few full squad workouts, new Detroit Tigers pitcher Brad Ausmus is starting to consider who his opening day starter will be.  Ausmus told Dana Wakiji of foxsportdetroit.com that he has a tough choice considering he has three bona-fide aces on his staff.

This assumes Justin Verlander is ready to go by opening day after recovering from off-season shoulder surgery. Even if Verlander is healthy, Ausmus made it clear that he is more concerned about the pitchers ability to finish the season strong rather than who will be the Detroit Tigers opening day starter.

This could be a bit of a departure from traditional thinking that a teams #1 pitcher is the one that should take the ball on opening day.  The comments by Brad Ausmus make clear that he is less concerned about where pitchers rank at the beginning of the year than where his team ranks at the end of the year.

That said Ausmus says Detroit Tigers fans can expect to see the top of the rotation on the mound to start the season.
