It has been another rollercoaster of a Big Ten basketball season. From the beginning the Michigan State Spartans looked to be the odds on favorite to win the Big Ten’s regular season crown. But in the end it was the Michigan Wolverines who claimed the title.
On Tuesday night the Wolverines defeated the Fighting Illini 84-53 to clinch the Big Ten. The Wolverines bombed the Illini with 16 shots from behind the arch. Nik Stauskas led the way with a career high 7 three-pointers and totaled 24 points.
Stauskas said after the game that the Wolverines were focused on bringing home their first regular season title since 1986.
With the win #12 Michigan is now 22-7 and seems to be peaking at just the right time. The Wolverines have now won 4 straight and based on their recent performances look to be a high seed in the upcoming NCAA tournament.
The tournament seemed to be on the mind of Al Horford and the rest of the Wolverines after the win over Illinois. When asked if the Wolverines were going to do much celebrating Horford had this to say to ESPN,
Not really. We understand there are greater things ahead of us,”
Could those “greater things” include another magical run to the final four and a shot at a National Championship? One thing is certain, the Wolverines will give big blue fans plenty to brag about along the way.
