Western travels to Buffalo to play Syracuse on Thursday at 2:45. Western’s Coach explained the matchup this way:
So excited to get the opportunity to play Syracuse! Hall Of Fame Coach and a great team. In New York! Fight On!

I do not think I would qualify my feelings as excited. I would have preferred for Western to get a higher seed and maybe an easier team to upset. But WMU has not been in the tournament since 2004, so no complaining. Furthermore, Syracuse has struggled late in the season. They were tearing up college basketball for most of the season and then they hit a brick wall. If it was November this matchup would be a no brainer. Although the Orangemen probably thought they would be a 1 seed back in November. Also, I think all the other 3 seeds would have been worse. (Creighton, Duke, Iowa State).
How about the match-up? Can Western play with Syracuse?
WMU got a taste of Syracuse’s 2-3 zone vs. EMU — and had some issues with it. http://t.co/T676YM2iYg — Freep Sports (@freepsports) March 17, 2014 Not only that, but Clark Kellogg did call Western a “dangerous team” on national television Sunday.
If this game were played in September – February, I do not think anyone would pick Western to win the game, but this is March. Anything can happen in March. Western played very well in the MAC tournament. Syracuse lost to NC State in the quarterfinals of the ACC tournament. Syracuse won 25 straight to start the season, but has not played well since. A quick look around the internet has a lot of people picking Western to upset. (Not the President though, although his numbers don’t look that good lately either) March is about match ups. Western has the pieces to breakdown a zone (good post player – Whittington and a great shooter – Brown). The stars are aligning for an upset, but don’t count out Syracuse in their own backyard. I think it will be a great game and I look forward to pulling up a chair at 2:45 and watching the game. While I was researching I came across this quote on twitter. I do not know Slick Ken, but I couldn’t agree more with what he said.
if WMU beats Syracuse on Thursday I might lose my damn mind

Heres to hoping we all wake up Friday without our minds.
