NCAA Tournament: Michigan State Spartans V Virginia Cavaliers, Preview, Prediction, and Start Time

Michigan State has made the Sweet Sixteen for the 12th time in 17 years.  On Friday night they face the Virginia Cavaliers from Madison Square Garden in New York.  This team will be the best defensive team Michigan State has faced this year.

Even though Virginia only has 2 players who average in double figures they only allowed over 70 points 4 times this year, this game could be a slug fest.  Michigan State plays great defense as well so this game could very well be in the 60 to 50 point range for both teams.  With Virginia’s coach being Tony Bennett Michigan State has faced his father Dick Bennett who was Wisconsin’s coach when they made the Final Four in 2000.  Virginia runs the same defense so Izzo can lean on his experience in that area to help solve the defense.

Virginia also rebounds with all 5 players just like Michigan State so rebounding will be a big factor in deciding who moves on to the Elite Eight.  If you like defense this is definitely going to be the game for you as this is going to be a war.  If Michigan State allows Virginia to determine the pace of the game it could be a long game for them.

Prediction Michigan State will win a defensive game by having just enough offense.
