Max Scherzer Looks To Continue Success Against The Kansas City Royals

It seems odd to say the a CY Young award winner would have something to prove. But in the case of Max Scherzer, you have to do a little more than win Cy Young to overshadow Justin Verlander.

After being snubbed for the opening day start despite winning the award for best pitcher in the American League, Mad Max will be pitching to show the baseball world he deserves considered an ace.

Scherzer will start to make his case tomorrow when he faces a Royals line-up that also has a little something to prove as well.

Kansas City lost their sixth straight opening day on Monday but despite enjoying success against the Royals is recent years Scherzer has a healthy respect for their potentially explosive line-up.

I’m not going to say it’s any different because from my end, I’ve always respected what they’ve been able to do,” Scherzer said. “Even when they have struggled as a team, they’ve also always been very good offensively. They’ve always done a lot at the plate.”

Baseball pundits have the Royals finishing second to the Tigers in the AL Central this year. That finish will depend on the offense’s ability to produce runs.

To that end the Royals acquired former Tiger Omar Infante in free agency after he was replaced by Ian Kinsler following the Prince Fielder trade. Infante served as a catalyst at the bottom of the line-up for the Tigers last season. He will try to do the same for KC by batting #2 behind slap hitting speedster Nori Aoki.
