The Detroit Red Wings after having numerous injuries this year are coming together as a team at the right time. With all the injuries they have developed some of their more promising prospects faster than they normally would. After years of bringing talent along slowly and making trades to bridge the gap till the new crop was ready it had finally started to catch up with them the last two years. The injuries had put their 22 year streak of making the playoffs in serious jeopardy. The young kids especially Gustav Nyquist, who has the most goals since the All-Star game, have kept the chance to continue the streak alive.
When Zach Parise and Ryan Sutter spurned the Red Wings 2 off seasons ago in favor of the Minnesota Wild it set them back at least 3 years. The development of the young kids have gotten the Red Wings to within 1 or 2 moves of being Stanley Cup Contenders again. With the signing of Danny Dekyser and the development of Gustav Nyquist, Luke Glending, and the return of Darren Helm they have put the team closer to being a title contender than they have been since Niklaus Lidstrom retired. With the return of Henrik Zetterberg, if they make the playoffs, and Pavel Datsyuk last night they are serious contenders to make some noise in the Eastern Conference Playoffs.
With this being a bad year in Detroit Sports history with the Lions and Pistons struggling when the Red Wings started getting injured it looked like an even longer year till the Tigers started. However the injuries have helped them see that they had some serious talent waiting in the minors, hey what a novel idea Dave Dombrowski they developed a minor league system and it works. After watching this team the last two weeks I am convinced that not only are they going to make the playoffs they are at the minimum win 2 rounds, the Hockey world better look out because the Red Wings are back on the hunt. It should be a fun playoff run, GO WINGS.
