Detroit Pistons Compiling List Of Candidates In Search For General Manager

Replacing Dumars should be a top priority for the Detroit Pistons with the NBA Draft approaching. According to Mark Stein of ESPN, the Pistons are adding more familiar names to a list that already reportedly includes former Guard Isiah Thomas.

Scott Perry makes sense as a candidate as he worked in the front office with Dumars during the successful part of his reign as General Manager.

The inclusion of Grant Hill among GM candidates however is puzzling. Grant Hill began his career with the Pistons but other than having a degree from Duke and a recent success as a television commentator, Hill’s qualifications as a basketball executive are limited at best.  In fact Grant Hill as General Manager reeks of another Detroit Sports General Manager with media credentials that had disastrous consequences.

That said Joe Dumars had limited credentials when he started as GM with the Pistons. But the current Detroit Pistons front office is a place seemingly devoid of championship know how with the original brain trust (John Hammond and Scott Perry) having moved on.

The Detroit Pistons need a solid basketball mind with a winning pedigree to pull this franchise out of its cycle of substandard play. As Marc Stein said more names are bound to emerge. But if the latest group of names is any indication, fans may be in for a long summer.

Who do you think should be a candidate to replace Joe Dumars?
