Nick Castellanos Leads Detroit Tigers Offense In Win

The Detroit Tigers offense exploded tonight for 10 runs as the Tigers beat the Twins at Target Field 10-6.

The offense was led by Nick Castellanos. Casty had 3 RBI coming from a two run HR in the 2nd and an RBI single in the 3rd. The RBI single in the third was part of a 7 run Tigers 3rd inning, the team highest scoring inning of the season.

Nick Castellanos ability seems to be as advertised. He is hitting .274 with 3 HR and 13 RBI in the early going and also looking impressive with the glove at 3rd base. Not bad for a rookie who was training to switch positions last season in AAA Toledo.

Castellanos has been hitting in the bottom third of the order for Brad Ausmus but if he continues to rake look for him to move up in the order possibly into the number 5 spot.

Game Notes

Torii Hunter also continued his stellar play in Minnesota. Hunters 3 hits and 2 RBI and served as a catalyst at the top of the order

Rajai Davis had three hits from the number 9 spot knocking in an RBI in the third and later stealing his 8th base on the season.

Brad Ausmus was forced to use Joe Nathan in the 9th inning after the Twins came back from a 10-1 deficit. No signs of Dead Arm Joe however and Nathan shut down his former team to secure the victory.

The Detroit Tigers will continue their series with the Minnesota Twins on Saturday at 2:10 pm.  The pitching match-up will feature Anibal Sanchez vs. Phil Hughes.
