The Detroit Tigers Needed A Rain-out

The Detroit Tigers had a disastrous weekend brewing in Minnesota.  On Friday they nearly blew a 9 run lead and ended up having to using 5 pitchers including the closer to get a win. On Saturday Anibal Sanchez left the game in the third inning with a blister, exposing the bullpen once again while losing the game.

So with the bullpen gassed and temperatures still projected to be in the 40’s a rain out on sunday may have been a blessing in disguise.

The rain out will give the Tiger’s bullpen two days of rest before resuming on Tuesday. That is when the Tigers travel to Chicago to meet the Whites Sox. Justin Verlander (Sunday’s scheduled starter) will face the Sox on Tuesday followed by Max Scherzer and Rick Porcello.

News and Notes

Anibal Sanchez was placed on the 15 day disabled list.  Who will the Tigers replace him with? Chris Iott of MLive projects that replacement will be rookie left-hander Robbie Ray.

The good news from the weekend is that Miguel Cabrera is starting to heat up. Miggy had an RBI in both games this weekend and is starting to look like the MVP hitter the tigers need right now.

In case you haven’t noticed, Rajai Davis is fast. Rajai had is 8th stolen base on Friday and made it look easy.
