2014 NFL Draft: Should The Detroit Lions Have Drafted Michael Sam

The Detroit Lions needed help at linebacker and Michael Sam was available when the Detroit Lions 7th round pick came up. Instead they took a kicker.

Micheal Sam is characterized as a hard-working hard-nosed football player that will work hard to produce in the NFL.

He also would be the first openly gay professional football player if he was drafted.

But can Sam play in the NFL.

Before the combine Michael Sam was projected to be a 4th or 5th round pick. But after a poor performance at the combine, Sam’s stock dropped.

But there is another notable draft prospect who refused to perform at the combine and had an awful showing during his pro day workouts.

But bad pro day’s weren’t enough to deter Minnesota from drafting QB Teddy Bridgewater.  They chose to ignore that and go with what he put down on tape.

Pundits say Micheal Sam’s tape says he is good enough to be drafted.  So why is he different?

I think we know the answer to that question but I digress.

The Detroit Lions needed special teams help and Michael Sam was the best player left to help them with that.
