Simply put Victor Martinez has been the fuel in the Detroit Tigers offensive engine. With Miguel Cabrera stuggling, V-Mart leads the team in home runs with 8. That is already over half the number of dingers he hit in 159 games last season (14).
In Saturday’s 9-3 victory over the Minnesota Twins, Victor Martinez was 2 for 4 with a double, home run and 3 runs batted in. That is better start than in 2010, when he hit 20 homers for Boston.
Martinez has always been a clutch, RBI raking middle of the order hitter. When V-Mart assumed the clean-up role this season, many fans wondered if he could supply enough power to protect the Tiger two-time MVP hitting right in front of him.
That question appears to be answered as Victor Martinez is on pace to have a career power year and all at the tender age of 36.
Martinez has also played in the field flawlessy this season getting starts and both 1st base and catcher during interleague play.
If Martinez can keep the pace and Migeul Cabrera returns to form, the two will form potent combo in the middle of the order.
