Stan Van Gundy Will Give Detroit Pistons Major Overhaul

Is Detroit ready for Stan Van Gundy? We will find out today after the press conference that will surely have the talk radio dial burning.

Whether you love the move or hate it you will have to deal with it for quite some time. After signing a deal for 5 years Stan Van Gundy will likely serve the duration of the deal, especially considering that he is his own boss.

As you may have heard, SVG will serve a dual role with the Detroit Pistons President of Basketball Operations and Head Coach.

But how will Stan Van Gundy affect the Detroit Pistons moving forward?

The first thing Detroit Pistons fans can expect is a major overhaul of the roster.  That will likely include dumping and or trading contracts like that of Josh Smith in order to bring in players that will fit well with Andre Drummond.

Whatever rebuilding effort takes place will center around the Pistons big man who is considered one of the up and coming stars in the NBA. But who (beside Josh Smith) will go in order to make room on the roster.

Charlie Villenuva, Rodney Stuckey, Greg Monroe and Josh Harrelson are all free agents and will likely not return.  That will give Stan Van Gundy a whopping $21 million to work with in free agency.  There is an opportunity to open up even more if he can pull off a trade or two. Players on the trade block are likely to include Brandon Jennings, Josh Smith and Will Bynum.

The bottom line is the Pistons Roster will be completely remade with players that believe in the philosophy of their new coach. Stand Van Gundy brings grit, fire and determination, all qualities Detroit Sports fans admire in a team. If Van Gundy can imprint those qualities on this team then Piston fans will finally have a team they can identify with again.
