Michigan In The Hunt For Highly Touted LB Justin HIlliard; Announcement Expected July 2

Cincinnati native and highly touted, five-star LB Justin Hilliard is expected to announce his college decision on July 2nd, according to multiple media reports and his Twitter account. The St. Xavier High School product tweeted the date along with a graphic of his top-five suitors on Sunday. The University of Michigan is one of the teams remaining on Hilliard’s short list.

Hilliard, who is 6 feet 2 and 235 pounds, is ranked the nation’s No. 49 player overall in the 2015 class by Rivals.com. He is a four-star recruit and is ranked the nation’s No. 1 outside linebacker in the 2015 class by Rivals.com and 247Sports. He is a five-star recruit by 247Sports.

  • He has had offers that included Alabama, Clemson, Florida State, University of Southern California, Virginia, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Missouri, Boston College, Michigan, Penn State, Nebraska, South Carolina, Iowa, Texas A&M, Arkansas, Georgia Tech, Indiana and several others.

    Hilliard has narrowed his college choices to Alabama, Notre Dame, Iowa, Ohio State and Michigan in May. He did however visit Ann Arbor multiple times and attended home games against Notre Dame and Ohio State last season.

    Hilliard played in seven games for the St. Xavier Bombers in 2013 before injuring his foot. He had 76 tackles, seven tackles for a loss of 24 yards, four sacks, one interception for 47 yards, six broken up passes and one fumble recovery for 18 yards in the regular season. He had 3 ½ tackles (three solo) in a playoff game against Moeller in early November.

    Michigan also currently holds a pledge from one 2015 linebacker, Lawrence Central (Ind.) High School’s Darrin Kirkland Jr.

    National Signing Day is Feb. 4, 2015.
