Rick Porcello's Scoreless Inning Streak Reaches 24

Rick Porcello is no fluke and as the season goes on it is becoming clear that he could be key to the Detroit Tigers success.

Last night against one of the best teams in baseball, Porcello threw his second consecutive complete game shut-out while scateering just 3 hits helping the Tigers to a 3-0 win.

Last nights nine scoreless ininngs extends Rick Porcello’s streak to 24 innings over three games.  The win puts Porcello top of the American League leader board tied with Masahiro Tanaka at 11 wins while dropping his ERA to 3.12 second on the team to Anibal Sanchez.

It can be argued that Porcello is the third best pticher on the roster behind Anibal Sanchez and Max Scherzer.  Thats right, Porcello has been more consisitent that Justin Verlander over the course if the 2014 season.

So what does all of this mean?

If Rick Porcello continues to have a break-out season it might be enough to make Dave Domborwski and the Detroit Tigers feel comfortable letting Scherzer walk at the end of the season.

It would be a great story considering Rick Porcello has had to learn on the job after a rapid promotion to the majors in 2009. Not to mention that he is home grown, a product of the Detroit Tigers organization from the start.

We could be watching our next Ace develop before our eyes.  Treasure it Tigers fans!
