Three Detroit Tigers have been named to the 2014 MLB All Star Game including one starter and two reserves.
It is Miggy’s 9th career selection but just his second as a start in the mid-summer classic at a position that is difficult to win considering the competition. Cabrera is having another stellar season batting .311 with 14 HR, 67 RBI and 32 doubles.
V-Mart is serving as Miguel Cabrera’s protection in the Detroit Tigers line-up and will join him as an American League All-Star reserve. Most fans would say that V-Mart is having a better season than Cabrera. Martinez is batting .328 with 21 HR and 55 RBI.
The reigning Cy Young Award winner is usually on the All-Star team and now exception here. That said, Scherzer’s 10-3 record and 3.47 ERA was certainly good enough to warrant and trip to the All-Star game on it’s own.
Three members of one team on an all-star team is something to be proud of. But the Tigers could make it four if Rick Porcello can win enough votes. Porcello is one of five pitchers that have a chance to earn a spot as an all-star reserve as part of the Final Vote. Tiger fans can begin voting tonight on MLB.com. The other Final Vote candidates are Chris Sale of the White Sox, Corey Kluberof the Indians, Garret Richards of the Angels and Dallas Keuchel of the Astros.
