No Victor, No Problem! Detroit Tigers Smoke Royals

How is this for a stat line. 16 runs, 19 hits, 8 doubles, 5 walks and a home run.

No this is not the stat line from a Playstation revenge fantasy. It the damage done by the Detroit Tigers offense against the Royals on Thursday night in Kansas City.

But even more surprising than the 16-4 whopping of the Royals was that Victor Martinez wasn’t involved.

Victor Martinez has been nursing a sore back so with the All-Star break right around the corner Brad Ausmus has decided to play it safe and shut down his DH.

That has opened the door for the other Martinez to show what he could do in the clean-up spot.  While covering for V-Mart, J.D. Martinez went 2 for 3 with 3 RBI and a double. It is the second consecutive 3 RBI game for J.D. Martinez who has been red-hot for the last month of the season.

The Detroit Tigers continue their four game series with the Royals on Friday. Kansas City’s Danny Duffy (5-8) looks to continue his strong start against Anibal Sanchez (5-3). This game promises to be a pitchers duel. Duffy has a 2.68 ERA and has a losing record due to some hard luck in recent weeks.

You can catch the game on Fox Sport Detroit starting at 8:10 pm.
