Ian Kinsler Will Replace Victor Martinez On All-Star Team

Many thought that Ian Kinsler was one of the players that should have been named to the All-Star team.  Now he is.

Kinsler will replace Victor Martinez on the 2014 MLB All-Star team after Tigers designated hitter turned up with a sore back this week causing the Brad Aumsus to shut him down until after the break.

It is unfortunate that it took an injury for Kinsler to get an all-star invite.  He is batting .305 with 11 HR, 50 RBI and 10 stolen bases and is among the leaders for American League second basemen. That said it is surprising that American League manager John Ferrell didn’t name his own DH David Ortiz to replace Martinez.

Another Tigers snubbed by the All-Star game was Rick Porcello.  Porcello is among the league leaders in wins but a poor performance on Sunday nigh baseball against the Tampa Bay Rays hurt his chances in the final vote.

This is Ian Kinsler’s 4th appearance in the All-Star game.  He joins fellow Detroit Tigers All-Stars Max Scherzer and Miguel Cabrera on the team.

The All-Star game will take place on July 15th at Target Field in Minneapolis Minnesota. You can watch it on Fox starting at 8 pm.
