Max Scherzer Strikes Out Two In 5th Of All Star Game

Max Scherzer’s second all-star appearance was another success.  Scherzer entered  the 5th inning and held the top of the National League batting order scoreless.

Mad Max started the inning by escaping a close play at 1st when the Pirates Andrew McCutchen nearly turned a routine grounder into his second infield single.  McCutchen was out when Miguel Cabrera tagged him after an errant throw by 3B Josh Donaldson.

The second batter was Yasiel Puig who went down swinging for the second out of the inning.  Puig was Max Scherzers first strikeout victim after striking out twice before.

The third batter was Troy Tulowitzki who lined a laser beam double off of the right field wall putting a man in scoring position with 2-out.

With Arizona Diamondbacks slugger Paul Goldschmidt at the plate, Max Scherzer nuckled down and struck out “goldy” to preserve the tie.

In the bottom of the 5th inning the American League took the lead with a pair of RBI by Mike Trout and Jose Altuve.
